The psychotherapists of House Calls Counseling are a seasoned, diverse team of friendly, professional, master’s-level Counselors and Social Workers.
Billy Kaplan, LCSW Billy Kaplan is the President and Clinical Director at House Calls Counseling. He is a graduate of Bradley University and he earned a Master of Social Work degree from Yeshiva University, the Wurzweiler School of Social Work. He has provided in-home and office-based psychotherapy to families, couples, adults, adolescents, and children for over fifteen years. He has worked in many settings and with many types of problems, including work as an in-home therapist in a child welfare program intended to keep families together, a counselor of victims of sexual abuse, and a clinical administrator for a drop-in center for homeless youth. He has been a clinical supervisor in foster care, residential, and counseling programs. He is an experienced trainer who has made multiple presentations at local, national, and international organizations on attachment disorders, parenting skills, adolescent development, child welfare and a host of other topics. He has held adjunct teaching appointments at Loyola University School of Socia Work and Governor's State University. He currently supports expectant and new parents through the Boot Camp for New Dads workshop at the University of Chicago Lying-In Hospital in Hyde Park, he is a trainer of trainers for the national Boot Camp for New Dads organization, and he works with the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative and other agencies to expand Boot Camp for New Dads throughout the State of Illinois. His article, "New Dads in Labor: An Opportunity for Involvement" was published in the September, 2004 edition of the International Journal of Childbirth Education. Click here for a copy of his resume. Chris Bruhn, PhD Chris Bruhn is a psychotherapist at House Calls Counseling. She is a graduate of Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, and she earned Master of Social Work and Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Jane Addams School of Social Work. She has extensive experience conducting research on Child Welfare related topics. She has also worked as a Child Care Worker with deaf/hard of hearing and emotionally disturbed adolescents in a residential setting, she has provided home-based individual, couple and family counseling and clinical case management, and she has worked as a Child Welfare Specialist II with IDCFS. Denise Duval, LCSW Denise Duval is a psychotherapist at House Calls Counseling. She is a graduate of Ohio State University, she earned a Master of Social Work degree from Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois-Chicago, and she is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Clinical Social Work at the Institute of Clinical Social Work. Ms. Duval works with individuals, couples, families and groups. She focuses on the treatment of young adults, adolescents and children with a concentration in the areas of child welfare, abuse, trauma, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and sexual reactivity in children. She also focuses on working with parents to improve their parenting skills, on working with adolescents who are pregnant, and on providing screenings and evaluations for children between the ages of zero to five. Click here for a copy of her resume. Cassandra Firkins, LCSW Cassy Firkins is a psychotherapist at House Calls Counseling. She is a graduate of Indiana University, and she earned her Master of Social Work degree from a joint program of Indiana University and Purdue University. Cassy has worked with children, youth and families in Child Welfare and academic settings for nearly ten years as a Family Therapist, Social Work Supervisor, Case Manager Supervisor and adoption specialist. She is an experienced trainer who has provided local and national training to Child Welfare professionals, Foster Parents and elementary school students. Ms. Firkins works with individuals, couples, and families. She has worked with a culturally diverse group of individuals. Wendy Kovacs, LMFT Wendy Kovacs is a psychotherapist with House Calls Counseling. She is a graduate of Simpson
College, in Indianola, Iowa, where she received a BA in Psychology with a Ms. Kovacs works with individuals, couples, and families. She focuses on the treatment of survivors of abuse and neglect, children, adolescents, and adults. She has worked with a culturally diverse group of individuals. Joni A. Lamb, LCSW Joni Lamb is a psychotherapist at House Calls Counseling. She is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and she earned a Master of Social Work degree from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois-Chicago. She has worked in a public school providing psychotherapy to students, and crisis intervention and clinical counsultation to the school administration and teachers. She has provided outpatient mental health services and crisis intervention services to children, youth and their families. Ms. Lamb is an experienced workshop facilitator and she has designed and developed a variety of training programs. She works with families in Spanish and English. Ms. Lamb works with individuals, couples, and families. She has worked with a culturally diverse group of individuals. Alefiyah Lindo, LCSW Alefiyah Lindo is a psychotherapist with House Calls Counseling. She is a graduate of Purdue University and she earned her Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Alefiyah has worked with children, youth and families in a school-based health center, outpatient mental health clinics, and public housing. She is a certified Hospice volunteer, she has been a volunteer Probation Office Assistant, and a Social Work volunteer at an orphanage in India. She speaks Hindi, Gujarati and Urdu fluently, and she is conversant in Spanish. Jennifer Oh, LPC, NCC, CADC Jennifer Oh is psychotherapist with House Calls Counseling. She is a graduate of DePaul University and she earned her Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology and Human Services from National-Louis University. She is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She has been the Substance Abuse Program Supervisor for the Wells Center/Illinois Department of Corrections' Illinois Youth Center. She has also provided on-call crisis interventions for a community family services organization.
